Understand SRP’s unique system where landowners decide Arizona’s water and energy future.

Voting in Arizona doesn’t just happen in state or federal elections - it happens through SRP, too. Unlike typical elections, SRP uses a special system called acreage voting, designed to reflect the deep connection between land, water, and leadership. This means if you own land within SRP’s territory - even just a residential lot - you have a vote in who leads one of the most important utilities in the West. But here’s the catch: ballots aren’t automatically mailed. You need to request one.

Acreage voting dates back over 100 years, to a time when water use was tied directly to land ownership. Today, the process remains intact and relevant - because landowners still carry a big responsibility when it comes to resource stewardship. SRP’s system gives one vote per acre of land owned. That means people who manage larger portions of land get proportionally more say - but everyone with even a fraction of an acre still has a voice. It’s a system built on accountability and engagement.

But many landowners don’t even know this vote exists. SRP elections often fly under the radar - and that’s a problem. With Arizona facing serious questions about water supply, energy sustainability, and long-term affordability, it’s crucial that informed voters show up. That’s why this campaign is focused on educating landowners like you - because your vote is powerful, and it’s time to use it.

Here’s what to do: Check if your land is within SRP territory. If so, mark your calendar: SRP Election Day is April 7, 2026. Visit our site to request your ballot, meet the candidates, and learn how to vote by mail. Let’s make sure SRP’s future is shaped by the people it serves — not outsiders or special interests.

Takeaway:

If you own land, you vote. And that vote controls Arizona’s most vital resources.
